Trip to the Zoo

Last Saturday (I know, I'm behind on my blogging) we took Logan to the Zoo. He loved all the animals and riding in the stroller. Then we had a picnic in the park. It was also the same day as "Bark in the Park." There were people with dogs everywhere. Logan LOVES dogs, so that was highly entertaining for him!!

Mommy with a masters!

Look what came in my mailbox... finally done!!

Big Brother

Here is the Higgins family news:

Logan is going to be a big brother!! I am due with baby #2 on January 13th, 2010. The original due date was December 23rd. I told my doctor I was glad the due date was moved to January. He reminded me that babies come in their own time Yikes! I would rather not be in the hospital on Christmas.
Anyway, I found out I was pregnant while Greg was at work during Logan's afternoon nap. As soon as I found out, I sprung into high gear and found markers and drew the shirt. I put a sticker on it for decoration since I didn't have time to paint a shirt and have it dry.

When Greg came home, Logan had on the shirt. Of course, daddy's don't really notice what the child is wearing, so I had to tell him to look at Logan's shirt. He was very excited!
We're praying for another happy and healthy baby!

There's Crickets, and tadpoles...

Turtles...

And Frogs.
And Snakes and all sorts of creepy crawlings around the Higgins' household these days. Greg has been introducing Logan to the great outdoors. Of course, Mommy still has her "rules".
1. Snakes can't come in the house.
2. Logan can't put the critters in his mouth.
3. Mommy will stand by with sanitizing wipes in case a turtle poops on Logan.
I'm sure there will be more rules to come, and all rules will eventually be broken...

Learning new things

Logan and I have been coloring together lately. The PAT educator had suggested it and then the doctor suggested it at his 12 month appointment.
He loves his colored pencils. He likes to try to eat them or throw them.
He likes coloring on the floor rather than on the paper. (Don't worry, they're washable!)
And he gets bored with it pretty fast.

But I'm sure some day his coloring skills will blossom. And for now, it's something fun for mommy to try with him.

Logan's first airplane ride

Logan got to take a trip to Georgia last weekend to celebrate Mandy and Sean's wedding. It was his first time on an airplane. He did really great on the whole trip.
First he helped mommy pack all week. It seriously took me a week to pack for a 3 day trip!!

Then we got up at 3:30 am Friday morning. I thought Logan would fall asleep in the car on the way to the airport but he stayed awake! We stopped at Brian's house to meet up with Greg's family and Logan was crawling all over the place -wide awake. The trek through the airport was great. If any of you are traveling with small children, check out the tsa website. They have lots of good tips and they will let you take a lot of extra liquids and food that you can't normally take. Logan did great on the plane. He really liked the air blowing on him.

As soon as the plane started taxiing to the runway, he grabbed his blankie and fell asleep across Greg and me. He slept until about 10 minutes before we started landing. When we got to Atlanta, we had to wait a long time to get into the gate. He sat on Grandma's lap and watched the trucks and planes with great interest!!

We had a fun, busy weekend... full of parties! Logan got to see lots of interesting things-- like this silly elk outside of Uncle Jerry's antique shop. Logan laughed every time he looked at this!
He got to see lots of his family and get lots of attention.
He also got to swim in the swimming pool with Daddy and Grandpa and Jared. (Hopefully Greg will email me pictures of that so I can put it in my blog.)
And he got to stay with a babysitter for the first time while mommy and daddy went out to the wedding. Of course when we got home at 12:30, he was standing up in his crib-- wide awake!
We had a good trip and we are glad to be home. I didn't get any pictures of me and Greg or me and Greg with Logan. I don't know how I missed out on that. But here is a picture of the beautiful bride. Congratulations to Mandy and Sean!

Stats

Logan James Higgins
Age: 1 year
Height: 32 inches
95th percentile
Weight: 23 lbs.
6oth percentile

Logan had his one year check up today. He was a very good boy. He kept saying, "Ah-ah-ahchoo" to the nurse. She said, it sounds like he's saying "Ahchoo." I told her, "He is. But he's just faking. His daddy taught him that!"
Every time the Doctor would ask a question, Logan would say, "Yes"... Until mommy called out his lie to the doctor.

Doctor: Is he walking yet?
Logan: Yes
Mommy: No he's not
Logan: No

Happy Birthday to Logan

Dear Logan,
Today you turn 1 year old!! I can't believe how fast this year went. You are such a special gift to us. We love you so much. A year ago today you came into our lives! What an exciting day! You have grown and changed so much over the last year... but somethings haven't changed. I guess they're just things that mark who you are...
For instance, if I had to choose one word to describe you, I would choose curious. You've been curious since the minute you were born. Your little eyes were so bright and you looked around the room just taking everything in. Whenever you heard mommy or daddy speak, you turned your head. You are still curious, you love to explore every room of the house and every drawer of the kitchen! And you love to crawl inside of things.

Also, you have always loved your blankies. When you were a newborn you loved to be swaddled up tight. Daddy was the best swaddler. Now you love to kick your feet and squirm. You don't hold still for a second but you still love your blankie. When we put you to bed, you find the corner of your blankie, put it in your mouth and suck on it. If you love someone, like Daddy or Grandma, you might even offer them a corner of your blankie to suck on.

You've always loved music. When you were a newborn, we always had to have the radio on in the car or you would cry. You love classical music, especially Mozart, and you love country. You loved our trip to Branson last fall when you got to hear the Pickers music. Now when you hear your favorite songs you clap and dance. When you want mommy to sing twinkle, twinkle, you sign to her. You try to sing along to "Jesus Loves Me" by singing, "Yes, yes, yesh..."

You've always loved reading books. I think that's because Mommy was teaching Reading Recovery when she was pregnant. Now you can turn the pages by yourself and find your favorite books on the shelf. You love nursery rhymes, especially "Hey Diddle, Diddle" and books about animals. You can even say, "Woof, woof".

You've learned a lot this year, how to eat like a big boy, how to crawl and cruise, how to say little words, and blow kisses. But I hope you've also learned a little bit about God. How much he loves you and that someday you will decide to follow him. I hope you've also learned that your mommy and daddy love you more than anyone in the world and we will always believe in you, support you, pray for you, be proud of you, and love you.

I hope our next year together is as blessed as this year.
Love,
Mommy
