Christmas Afternoon

I know I have a ridiculous number of Christmas posts, but this is my baby's first Christmas and I want to remember it forever. It's scriptural- I think- even Mary, "Pondered all of these things in her heart." Or maybe that's a little out of context but this has been a special time for our family. On Christmas afternoon we went to my parent's house in Festus. We arrived around 12:3o so Logan could eat his Christmas lunch of pureed Turkey and rice and then take his afternoon nap. While he napped, the rest of us filled up on all the good stuff. Shhh, don't tell Logan but we had ham, potato casserole, rolls, jello salad, veggies, etc.

After lunch, we opened presents. Logan got a crawl along toy with ducks on it... his favorite, a ball popper thingy, some books, some clothes, and a whole box of Baby Mum-mum from Grandma and Grandpa. He got some very cute books and a wooden toy worm from Nick, and a Mega Blocks train and pair of Pooh overalls from Aunt Julie and Uncle Ryan. He liked the bows best!He also got a trampoline to share with Nick and all future grandkids and a horsey to share as well.

Greg and I got clothes (a sweater and sweatshirt), my mom's home canned goods and a part of a ham, and cash!

When gift opening was finished we had the annual talent show. Nick appointed himself as director. I think he has a future in directing. He decided that he would play "trumpet", Ryan would sing, and Julie would dance. Julie had plans to play the piano. We tried substitute dancers but Nick would not allow any guys to dance. Finally he said to me, "You dance." There is really no telling this kid no, so I did my best to dance to Christmas carols. Have you ever tried to dance to Christmas carols? Logan did do some dancing. He likes to stand up and shake his booty and when he is with nice people like his Aunt Julie, he gets lots of practice standing. She is much more patient than mommy and will hold him for as long as he wants.

Logan was also the "little drummer boy."
Grandpa took pictures and videos for his talent.

Greg played the piano. I think this is the best picture of the season!! Maybe our Christmas card for next year...

We had a great time on Christmas with family!

Christmas Morning

We got to be home at our beautiful house this Christmas and spend Christmas morning as a family. Logan slept until 7:45 then I nursed him and then we were ready to open gifts. Santa brought Logan a shape sorter barn, a cell phone, keys, and his favorite a rubber ducky! Mommy and Daddy got Logan a swimming pool for next summer.... although we might blow it up and let him scoot around in it in the basement. Daddy also got Logan a Mercer Mayer book called, "Me and My Dad". They've been reading it for about a week already, though!

Everytime we picked up the camera to get a picture of one of Logan's presents, he picked up the duck. So pretty much every picture involves the .99 duck.

Greg got me lots of gifts and they were all so thoughtful. He's been listening very well when I talked about things I needed. I could tell he spent a lot of time shopping... not his favorite hobby... and it meant a lot to me.

I got Greg a gun case and a lock. More for my peace of mind. I also got him a splitting wedge. Why? Because that's what he wanted!! Logan got Greg a bucket. Greg loves buckets. I even got 2 more free ones for him on the hwy on Christmas morning... that's the Higgins family for you. We're a little crazy!

Logan and Greg played together while I made our breakfast.

After we opened presents we ate Christmas coffee cake. It's my mom's recipe but I made it from scratch and by myself this year!!! We also had scrambled eggs.. made like my Grandma Bradley used to make them... with piece of sausage mixed in. It brought back memories of mornings in the farm house in Mountain View! I got the trait of taking pictures of the food from my dad. He ALWAYS takes pictures of food :) (Logan had Oatmeal and Applesauce. He has to wait until next Christmas for Coffee cake and eggs.)

Logan then took his bath. He's been in his baby tub for so long but finally seems to have outgrown it. We gave him his bath in the big tub. He got to use his new rubber ducky. He loves the water and could splash so much better in the big tub... and not get mommy as soaked.
Logan took his morning nap and then got up and watched the Yule Log on TV while he played with Daddy. Logan LOVES fires. He likes to sit and watch the fire in the woodstove at Grandpa's house. He also loves music, so the singing Yule Log was a good choice for him.

Christmas Eve

We spent Christmas eve in Washington with The Schmitt family. I didn't ever get my camera out of the diaper bag so there are no photos but Logan enjoyed his first Christmas experience. We arrived at 5:30 pm... not the best time of day for Logan but he was so good all evening! We had dinner with all of the extended family, 22 people all together. Logan had cherrios, green beans, and baby mum mum. He made a huge mess all over the floor... which was especially embarrassing when they cleared out the tables and used that room for gift exchanging. They had a little high chair but it was missing the belt to hold Logan in and he kept slidding out of it so Greg took off his belt and tied him in. It was a very redneck Christmas and I wish I had a picture of my baby boy tied in his high chair at the Christmas dinner table!!
After dinner we opened presents from Glenn and Joyce and then we did a gift exchange organized by Dave and Karla. Logan did really well through most of it. He enjoyed watching the big boys like his cousin Jared play. There are only boys amongst the little kids in this family.
We left around 8:30 pm and Logan fell asleep in the car on the way home. It was a very nice evening.

O Christmas Tree

Logan is dealing with a runny nose and teething this Christmas. So any time I can get a smile without snot, I sit him in front of the tree and snap a picture......or two...

...or three...

until he lets me know he's had enough.

And he tries to run away!

Play Time

Logan's first composition.

Grandma would be proud of his piano playing ability.

"Tummy time"

He'd rather be standing.

Daddy is so awesome! He brought a box from work so Logan could sit inside with all of his mega blocks. Logan loves to have all of his toys around him and kick them so they make LOTS of NOISE!

And here is a picture of Greg's playtime. He hung a door in our kitchen this weekend. I didn't get a picture of the final product with the doorknob yet. We are ready for Logan to start crawling any day!!

I have been tagged

Julie Katerberg tagged me so here goes. Now, this blog is supposed to be all about Logan but for a good friend like Julie I will comply. This game has a lot of rules. I may break some of them. My husband is teaching me to be a rule breaker. (He's a rule breaker, that's what he is.) Here are the rules:

1. Link to the person that tagged you.2. Post the rules on your blog.3. Share six non-important things/habits/quirks about yourself4. Tag six random people at the end of your post by linking to their blogs5. Let each random person know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their website.6. Let your tagger know when your entry is up.

Here are my 6 things:

1. I don't have a sense of smell. I went to the doctor for this problem when I was in college and temporarily went on medicine and sort of had a sense of smell but not much. Then my insurance stopped covering the medicine so I couldn't smell again. Then I got pregnant and I could smell EVERYTHING! Then I got unpregnant and couldn't smell again. I gotta say, if you're going to give up a sense, this is the one not to have. Especially if you have been a teacher.

2. I like to cook dinner. (Most days) It's my favorite part of the day and helps me relax.

3. I was the homecoming queen in college. I went to a small college and I'm pretty sure they should have done a recount... I'm not really "queen" material. But it was fun. And it was on my 21st birthday weekend!

4. My favorite pair of pants are 10 years old. I generally only wear them around the house. I bought them at Rave and they've held up. Weird.

5. I love Christmas. I want my house to look like a Norman Rockwell painting. It doesn't.

6. Since this is a baby blog, I will post one random thing about Logan. He is ridiculously scared of the vaccum cleaner. He used to just cry when I started vaccuming. Now he cries even if I wheel it into the same room that he is in. He stares at it and cries until I put it in a different room. Luckily we have mainly hardwood floors so I can do a lot of sweeping and mopping instead of vaccuming.

I really don't have a lot of blogger friends so I will only tag my sister Julie. I don't even know what her blog address is because she never writes on it but if I figure it out, I will link to her and let her know she has been tagged.

My Little Man

I'm catching up on blogging today... can you tell? Logan is really in to "standing up" right now. He can't quite pull up yet but if mommy and daddy help him get into this position he will stand for a long time. He looks like a cute little man to me!

He never wants to sit anymore. If I try to get him to sit down he stiffens his legs so he won't have to sit. Or if we're playing with a toy, he'd rather grab my hands and try to pull up than play with his toy.

He's not crawling yet either but I think he's determined to be mobile in some way or another soon

Deck the Halls

Is that a baby under my tree?

Thanksgiving Part I

We had Thanksgiving with Greg's family on Thursday at Greg's parent's house. Logan enjoyed meeting many of his relatives for the first time. He got lots of lovin' that day.

Logan with Uncle Brian.

Logan hanging with the guys (Daddy and Uncle Brian).

Logan in the kitchen with the girls. (Sara, Jill, Logan, Karla).

"Nice to see you, Grandma." (Logan with Great Grandma Higgins).

Grandma Higgins FINALLY gets to hold Logan. He was getting passed around a lot.

We had a great time. The food was wonderful. The company was great! And Logan was a very happy baby all day!!
