Logan had his first sickness starting the day after Christmas and continuing... indefinitely??? We are all sick. of. it. The poor little boy, after never being sick for 19 months (except for a few cases of the sniffles), got hit with an eye infection, and ear infection, and the croup.
On Christmas afternoon we were eating dinner at Grandma and Grandpa's. Grandpa kept trying to take a picture of Logan and Logan kept putting his hand in front of his face. We thought he was just being funny but then we noticed puss coming out of his eye. I know, Christmas dinner + puss... you want to keep reading, right? I called the doctor the next morning and by the time the doctor called me back, Logan was running a fever of 101. The doctor said the fever and the eye infection were probably 2 different things and called in a prescription for eye drops.
By Saturday evening, Logan's temperature had skyrocketed to 104.3... pretty significant and pretty scary for his first fever. He was on tylenol, too and even that was not bringing it down. We had to keep him in only a diaper or a onesie and try to sponge him down. The fever stayed pretty high all night and then broke the next morning. However, it kept coming back midafternoon every day and he started with a bad cough.
I took him to the doctor on Monday and she diagnosed the croup and the ear infection. We started amoxicillin for the ear infection-- which he HATED and spit out. We have finally learned how to effectively wrestle a 19 month old and force meds into him. He pretty much laid around from Monday-Wednesday with no response. We even had a few scary moments where we couldn't get him to even drink hardly anything for 24 hours. He still hasn't eaten much since Christmas!
Finally by Thursday he tried to get up and play. His poor little legs didn't always work and he had trouble walking because he was so weak and he hadn't walked in so long. He was pretty bored by Thursday and he wanted to play and "go bye-bye" so we took him on a drive through Lone elk park but it wore him out pretty bad.
He's doing better today and we're hoping for the best. Did I mention that in the midst of all of this momma is 38 weeks pregnant!! It was a pretty exhausting experience for me. Luckily, Greg took off the whole week and helped me. I couldn't have made it otherwise. And in some ways, it was a good thing for Greg and I. Logan slept so much Mon-Wed. that Greg and I got to hang out and relax. We haven't had that much time together since... Logan was born. And since we're expecting a second one any day, it was probably good for us. We also did it together... we laughed, I cried, we gave each other high fives when we learned how to dispense meds, etc.
The craziest part of all of this is that not only was our kid sick, but our 3 week old nephew, Jacob ended up in the hospital with a virus. (Not even the same stuff Logan had... guess there is a lot going around). He's home now and they are watching over him. And then, today, when we were going to celebrate Christmas with Greg's family, Brian's girlfriend, Kari ended up in the hospital. I would suggest staying far, far away from the Higgins family!

He gets a little better each day... he's finally wanting to read books with mommy!
